Identification, Abundance, and Distribution of Microplastics in Surface Water Collected from Luruaco Lake, Low Basin Magdalena River, Colombia

There are few studies on microplastic (MP) contamination in Colombia, and little is known about its impacts continental aquatic ecosystems. This study evaluated, for the first time, identification, abundance, distribution of MP particles surface water Luruaco Lake, low basin Magdalena River, included national programs marine sciences hydrobiological resources. Six stations four samplings were established dry rainy seasons. A total 72 samples collected extraction using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) digestion, density separation with sodium chloride solution (NaCl), filtration. The abundance MPs ranged from 0 to 3.83 MPs·L−1, an average 1.90 MPs·L−1 season 0.25 season. According calculated coefficient microplastics impact, Lake “maximum” “extreme” fibers length 2.05 mm “minimum” “average” fragments that 0.35 size average.
